Jan 15th HG Class

Today what we did in the class is we were looking at the power point about North Korea, specifically three leaders Kim Il-Sung, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Eun. These are the note taking that I did in the class.

Kim Il-Sung (1912 - 1994)

Ruled from 1948 - 1994

-Prime Minister 1948 - 1972

-President 1972 until death

Great Leader, Eternal Leader, Supreme Leader, Eternal President of the Republic

 

Life in North Korea under Kim Il-Sung

-Kim Il-Sung viewed as a god

-Establishment of "cult of personality"

-The people are required to show extreme devotion to him

-During early part of his rule. The state destroyed over 2000 Buddhist temples and Christian churches

 

Passing the torch to Kim Jong Il (1941-2011)

Ruled from 1994-2011 as Supreme Leader

Born in 1983

Became Supreme Leader

December 17th, 2011, after death of his father

32 years old - the world's youngest head of state

 

There are eight sovereign states that have successfully detonated nuclear weapon. Five are considered to be "nuclear-weapon states"(NWS) under the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

 

NPT is the organization of the countries that have the nuclear-weapon

USA, Russia, UK, France, China. Since NPT entered into force in 1970, three states that were not parties to the Treaty have conducted nuclear tests: India, Pakistan, and North Korea.

North Korea had been a party to the NPT but withdrew in 2003.
